Nail-filled package found near German Christmas market

Potsdam: A suspicious package delivered to a pharmacy near a Christmas market here was an improvised explosive device and special federal forces defused it after evacuation, police said on Friday. The package contained a cylindrical object with cables, batteries, nails and powder but no detonation device.  Authorities are yet to confirm whether the powder is an explosive. Police have been put on alert in neighbouring Berlin where a failed asylum seeker drove a truck into a Christmas market last year killing 12 people. Tunisian national Anis Amri was shot dead by Italian police in Milan four days after he committed the attack.
