Train engine runs 13 km without driver in India

An Indian railway employee on motorbike chased an electric train engine running without driver for about 13 km and stopped it after boarding it near Nalwar station in Karnataka last Wednesday. The incident happened when a Chennai-Mumbai train arrived at Wadi junction around 3 pm. The train engine was changed from electric to diesel for the onward route to Solapur which is not electrified. After shunting the electric train engine, the driver alighted from it only to find the engine moving ahead. Accident was averted as stations on Solapur route cleared signals and tracks and trains coming from the opposite direction were halted.
