Police officer killed, 4 other deputies hurt in the line of duty

A gunman in the US shot dead one Douglas county police officer and wounded four other deputies as they were responding to a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex in suburban Denver, Colorado, around 5.15 am on Sunday.
Two civilians were also injured by the gunman who is believed to have been shot dead after the standoff, the sheriff’s office said. The shootout happened at Copper Canyon Apartments complex in Highlands Ranch.
The wounded, including Deputy Jeff Pelle, son of Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle, were taken to two hospitals. Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree received three patients while Littleton Adventist Hospital received four patients during the day.  But they did not reveal the identity of the patients or their condition.
Later, the body of the slain deputy was moved from Littleton Adventist Hospital to the Douglas County Coroner’s Office in a black hearse.
Last year,  five police officers were shot dead and several others injured in Dallas by a man angry over police violence against black men.
