Outrage as leader calls Nazi era ‘bird shit’ in German history

The deputy leader of far-right AfD party offended Germans by dismissing Nazi-era as a mere speck in the nation’s otherwise grand and long history.

Addressing the youth wing of Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in Seebach, Thuringia on Saturday, Alexander Gauland (pictured) said Adolf Hitler and the Nazis are just “bird shit” on the 1000-year-old, successful German history.

At the same time, Gauland said only those who acknowledge history can shape the future.

While accepting responsibility for what happened during the 12 years of rule by Hitler and his party from 1933 to 1945, he said one has to look at history far beyond that period.

Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, secretary general of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Party, said it shocking that 50 million victims of war, the Holocaust and total war are just “bird shit” for AfD.

Marco Buschmann, parliamentary manager of the FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag, said Gaulan’s remarks indicate his “sinister visions” for Germany.

Katrin Göring-Eckardt of the Greens party said Gauland’s comments are a slap in the face to Holocaust survivors and their descendants.

Commenting on Gauland’s “bird shit” remark, someone said on social media that the politician may be referring to “some pretty massive bird with a rather upset stomach.”

Millions of people were persecuted or killed under Nazi rule, including six million Jews.
