Muslims will replace Jews as the second-largest religious group in the US after Christians by 2040, a study by Pew Research Center has found. The leading American think-tank says some 3.45 million Muslims were living in the US in 2017 representing about 1.1% of the country’s total population. Although there are more Jewish people living in the US now than Muslims, this will change by 2040 because the US Muslim population will grow much faster than the country’s Jewish population, the report said. By 2050, American Muslims will be 8.1 million or 2.1% of the population. The number of followers of Islam in the US has been growing at a rate of about 100,000 per year because of migration of Muslims and their higher fertility rates.
