Musician faces trial over remark on Nile

A popular Egyptian musician has been banned from singing for her silly remark on Nile River. At a  concert in United Arab Emirates, Sherine Abdel Wahab, 39, was asked to perform ‘Mashrabsh Min Nilha’ (Have you drunk from the Nile) to which Wahab replied jocularly that she will have snail fever or schistosomiasis if she does so. Drink Evian mineral water, it is better, she quipped. Some social media users found the remark inappropriate and said they will drink Nile water but stop listening to her songs. Musicians Syndicate, which imposed the ban, said her remark was an insult to the nation. She is facing two lawsuits for her comments.
