A man fatally shot himself near the north lawn fence of the White House just before noon on Saturday sparking a security alert. No one was injured in the shooting. People on the sidewalk fled in panic as they heard gunshots. Secrets Service Agents came running down after a colleague altered them about the shooting. FBI and Washington DC police responded to the incident. The Secrets Service have identified the man and are trying to contact his family. In a statement, they said the man approached the fence line, removed a concealed handgun and fired several rounds. None of the shots appear to have been directed towards the White House. Traffic around the White House was affected as all roads along the perimeter were closed. President Donald Trump, who was at Mar-a-Lago in Florida at the time of the incident, has been briefed about it. Only over a week ago, a 35-year-old driver was arrested after his vehicle hit a security barrier near the White House.
