A homeless man in the southern German city of Nuremberg is being treated for life-threatening injuries after he was dumped by mistake into a garbage truck along with the paper recycling container he was sleeping in. Hearing cries of help, workers stopped the vehicle’s compression mechanism and pulled the 41-year-old man from the back of the truck. The number of homeless people sleeping in the open has gone up in Germany because of a large influx of refugees in 2015 and the government’s misguided housing policy. Some 860,000 people in Germany were without housing in 2016, a 150% rise since 2014.
