Ex-Man United manager Ferguson in intensive care after brain surgery

Legendary ex-manager of Manchester United Alex Ferguson needs a period of intensive care for his recovery after he underwent emergency surgery for a brain haemorrhage on Saturday. Messages of support poured in after the news of his operation was made public. United captain Michael Carrick tweeted his thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Manchester City wished him speedy recovery. “My thoughts and prayers are with you, my dear friend,” Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo wrote on social media accounts. “Be strong, Boss!” tweeted David Beckham. Former United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel tweeted: “Please. Be strong. Win this one” interspersed with prayer emojis. Ferguson, 76, is British football’s most successful manager. He retired in 2013 after 27 years in charge at Old Trafford. He was at Old Trafford last Sunday to present Arsene Wenger, who will leave Arsenal after the season, with an award prior to the Frenchman’s final game against United.
