Equipment failure linked to Atlanta airport fire, outage

A massive power outage at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport that led to cancellation of over 1,000 Flights may have been caused by equipment failure, Georgia Power said after power was restored. In a statement, it said a piece of Georgia Power switchgear located in an underground electrical facility could have failed and started a fire which affected the underground facilities as well as substations serving the airport. A similar power outage happened in 2016 at Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines.
