Designer Kate Spade found dead in NY home in apparent suicide

US fashion designer Kate Spade was found dead in her Manhattan apartment in apparent suicide, police said.  A housekeeper found the body hanging with a scarf on a door handle around 10.20 am on Tuesday. A note found inside the home suggested she committed suicide. The 55-year-old Spade leaves behind husband Andrew Spade and their 13-year-old daughter Frances Beatrix Spade. Born Katherine Brosnahan in Kansas City in December 1962, Spade attended a Catholic high school and took a degree in journalism from Arizona State University in 1985. After working as fashion editor of Mademoiselle, she launched Kate Spade New York. Her handbag business with her partner and soon-to-be husband Andrew Spade made a bad start and she even thought of closing it. But soon the bags became a rage with their bright, modern looks. The couple sold the company in 2006 to focus on their daughter Frances, who was born in February 2005. They came back to business in 2016 by launching a new brand called Frances Valentine.
