A man in his sixties was killed when “something” he picked up from the ground near a Stockholm subway station exploded as he was cycling away on Sunday. A 45-year-old woman who happened to be near him was injured in the blast outside the Vårby Gård station. The Aftonbladet newspaper said the object he picked up was a hand grenade but Sven-Erik Olsson of the Stockholm police said it was too early to comment on the cause of the explosion. The man died in a hospital in the afternoon. The subway station and the nearby square were closed to public as police and bomb squads began investigation.
