Comcast, the largest cable provider in the US, has offered $65 billion for film and television assets of Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox, outbidding Walt Disney. The move signals fresh competition for media-entertainment power as Murdoch family sheds assets. Comcast also owns NBC Universal media group. If the deal comes through, Comcast-owned Universal Studios and the NBC television network will merge with Hollywood rival 20th Century Fox, Fox’s cable entertainment networks and international TV businesses. Comcast chairman Brian Roberts said the deal would clear the path for his company to build the entertainment company of the future. Roberts said the all-cash bid is 20% richer than the $52 billion stock offer from Disney.
