Chinese university bans Christmas celebrations

Shenyang Pharmaceutical University in China’s northeast province of Liaoning has banned Christmas celebrations on its campus to prevent its students from being misled by western culture. The diktat issued by the university’s Communist Youth League says the move is intended to help the younger generation “build cultural confidence”, a mouthpiece of the government Global Times reported. The rule applies to all activities centred on western religious holidays. The League says some youth are “blindly excited about western holidays”, especially Christmas Eve or Christmas Day and there is a need to “resist the corrosion by western religious culture”.
